Sue Pryke is an infectiously passionate ceramicist who perfectly illustrates the great beauty in a clean and simple design aesthetic across her mainline collections. When creating designs for Plates, and Kirk and Keeley, Sue often explores a more organic and raw hand made finish while maintaining the elegance synonymous with her work.
Her background is firmly rooted in the crafts, having started her journey into ceramics at a small pottery in Lincolnshire in the mid 1980โs. Learning the skills of production throwing, digging, wedging and weighing the clay to throw to all the same size and shape, Sue found the challenge absorbing and the repetitive nature satisfying.
Sue is inspired by the everyday and the ordinary; material qualities, textures and the interaction we have with objects; small details and preferences which reflect the intuitive decisions we all make on a daily basis when choosing what cup to use for a cup of tea. She has designed creamics for the likes of Ikea, Made, and Marks & Spencer, as well as restaurants such as the Stratford in London and of course, Plates.
